Exposing the Myth
Skyways new 2020 TA complete bike line up has created a lot on interest, and for good reason. Its the first TA complete bikes since the TA300 in the late 80s. With all the feedback on social media being mainly positive,
First off, this is the real deal. It is not a slapped together bike from an old BMX company created to make money. This project is 3 years in the making and has been driven by Skyway USA in collaboration with Skyway Australia. Some of the original Skyway staff that were there in the 80s are still at the helm of Skyway in the USA and I have been distributing Skyway product in Australia since 1978 and am also a BMXer, so this is not just a money grab. I would be selling energy drinks if I was in it for the money. Tooling costs, sourcing the right product and finding the right factories and assemblers all takes time and money. This all contributes to the final cost of these well designed and presented bikes.
These are not exact copies of the original TA completes or even frames. That would be disrespectful to the collectors out there who do have the original TA Frames. These are 2020 made frames built using the same teardrop TA tubing as in the 80s, however there are slight changes. We have redesigned these frames from the 2012 rerelease, back closer to the way they were in the 80s. They now feature a 21.5TT, full Chromoly teardrop TA Tubing, 1" Threaded fork steerer, USA BB set, side pull calliper brake mounts and a 25.4mm seatpost tube. The TA fork and Handlebar are also full Chromoly. Each bike and Frameset will be a numbered product to give this new complete, a mystique of its own. It will never be a genuine original 80s model, but will be an affordable collector bike, or a fun retro all day get around bike.
